ABOUT US

We are the Mizo Society of America (MSA), a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit, non-political, non-commercial and non-religious organization, which exists to promote, celebrate, and maintain the Mizo culture, traditions, and way of life while enriching America's great society.

We, the Mizo people, are originally from North-West Myanmar (Burma) and North-East India. It is estimated that there are over six thousand Mizos who have settled all over the United States and Canada.

This organization was first established on October 5, 1985, as the Mizo Cultural Society of America in Maryland State, and soon after changed its name to the Mizo Society of America.

Our corporate objectives are:

  1. To nurture Mizo culture, tradition, and “Tlawmngaihna” (Self-sacrifice in service of others).

  2. To foster friendship and understanding among the Mizos in the USA.

  3. To advance learning written and spoken Mizo language.

  4. To provide opportunities for exchanging exemplary cultural practices between members and other cultures.

  5. To help Mizo newcomers to America in their transition to life in America and help where needed.

  6. To teach good citizenship.

To accomplish these objectives, MSA organizes different cultural events throughout the year in different parts of the country under the leadership of the sub-branches within each state where Mizo people have settled.

Of these events, Chapchar Kut is always the biggest event organized by MSA every other year over the weekend of Memorial Day in May.
